Aggression and Violence in School Children

Recent incidents of shooting to kill in schools of India including Madhya Pradesh, by the children caused a serious concern all over. The Child Rights Observatory took first opportunity to initiate serious research on the subject of aggression and violence in school children. Dr. Uday Jain, former HoD, Psychology & Vice Chancellor, APS University, Rewa, M.P. has conducted this research and his report has been further discussed in a National level workshop at Bhopal. The outcomes of this research are now available. In brief, it has been found that although the violence in schools is a recent phenomenon it affects society as a whole and therefore deserves focused attention. Dr. Jain has suggested number of valuable steps, which include appointment of quality teachers, preferably female teachers, full time counselors in each school, imparting value education, increasing co-curricular activities, involving of parents, students and teachers for conflict resolution.
